Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Dr. Zhang Xuemei, a member of the fourth batch of the China-aided Cambodia Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Medical Team, recently received a silk banner from a Cambodian patient, Mr. Wu. The banner reads: "Noble medical ethics and superb skills, warm care that touches patients' hearts." This is the second banner Dr. Zhang has received since her arrival in Cambodia, demonstrating the growing trust in TCM in the country.

The patient, a 62-year-old local Cambodian, suffered right-sided hemiplegia caused by a stroke three months ago. Prolonged bed rest led to a yin abscess on his right shoulder, with a large, non-healing ulcer and persistent exudation. After receiving no improvement from local hospitals and in poor general health, he came to the TCM Department of the Kosamak Sino-Cambodian Friendship Hospital.
After a comprehensive TCM examination, Dr. Zhang promptly initiated a combined treatment plan using acupuncture and herbal medicine. On one hand, she coordinated with the team's acupuncturist to develop a rehabilitation plan. On the other hand, she selected carefully formulated TCM granules to address the root cause, promoting circulation and tissue regeneration. For the large ulcer on the right shoulder, she consulted a wound care specialist in China via telemedicine to design a dressing change protocol, combined with systemic treatment to promote healing. She also guided the family on nutritional support, posture management, and home rehabilitation, while offering encouragement to boost the patient's confidence.
After two months of systematic treatment, Mr. Wu's right shoulder ulcer healed and formed a scab. His right lower limb strength improved significantly, allowing him to walk independently with a cane. His general condition has improved, and he continues rehabilitation. On the day of presenting the banner, he walked into the consultation room with his cane, waving to express his heartfelt gratitude across borders.
Since arriving in Cambodia, the medical team has conducted multiple free clinics in remote areas, serving both overseas Chinese and local populations. Dr. Zhang remains committed to her mission, leveraging the strengths of TCM to safeguard the health of the Cambodian people.
