On March 18, at the invitation of our hospital, Professor Bruno Halpern, President of the World Obesity Federation (WOF) and Director of the Obesity Center at São Paulo Hospital in Brazil, visited our hospital and held in-depth discussions with our expert team on cutting-edge developments in obesity prevention and treatment. Vice President Chen Qiu attended the event.

During the academic session, Chen Qiu delivered a welcome speech, extending a warm reception to Professor Halpern. He noted that this exchange would inject new international perspectives and academic momentum into the development of our hospital’s obesity prevention and treatment programs.

In the academic presentation, Professor Halpern shared the latest global research findings and clinical experience in obesity management under the theme “It Is Not Only Weight Loss Itself, but Where You Lose”. As the principal investigator of numerous international multi-center clinical trials, he delivered an in-depth analysis of the impact of fat distribution on health, emphasizing the importance of “where fat is lost” during weight management, and introduced cutting-edge advances in pharmacotherapy for obesity.

In the subsequent discussion session, on-site experts engaged in lively exchanges covering clinical research on obesity, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment pathways, and obesity classification criteria. Professor Halpern spoke highly of our hospital’s explorations in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine for obesity prevention and treatment, and expressed his expectation for more international cooperation opportunities in the future.
